Hong Kong-listed Suncity Group officially opened its HOIANA integrated resort in Hoi An, Central Vietnam for an exclusive preview on June 28, with the group underlying its global hotel expansion efforts.
According to the group, the ceremony was hosted by the HOIANA Chairman, Don Lam, and the property’s Chief Executive Officer Steve Wolstenholme, with the property introducing some of its first operational facilities including Vietnam’s first Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed Hoiana Shores Golf Club and its Hoiana Hotel & Suites managed by Rosewood Hotel Group.
The group also indicated to MNA that the property’s casino is already operational.
The project’s first stage includes more than 1,000 hotel rooms, a casino with 140 gaming tables and over 300 slot machines. The property also occupies 3 kilometres of coastline in Hoi An.
The US$4 billion integrated resort project initiated construction in 2016 and will only its first phase grand opening in early 2021, after a delay justified by the group on the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Hoi An South Development Co Ltd (HASD) – the Vietnam-based joint venture of which Suncity Group holds a 34 per cent stake – granted a casino operating license in May of this year valid until 2080.
The joint venture responsible for the project also includes Chow Tai Fook and VinaCapital Group.
The group headed by Alvin Chau and connected to junket operations in Macau underlined in the announcement that it has been actively expanding its global hotel and integrated resort management businesses as its core development.
The group become the single largest shareholder of Summit Ascent Holdings Limited and will be participating in the development and operations of the current and future phases of Tigre de Cristal in Vladivostok, Russia, and acquired the majority stake of Suntrust Home Developers Inc. in the Philippines responsible for developing the Westside City Project in Entertainment City in Manila, Philippines.
The Manila integrated resort will have a gross floor area of over 180,000 square meters, including 400 five-star hotel rooms, entertainment facilities, pool clubs and leisure clubs, theatres, shopping malls, restaurants and 2,000 additional hotel rooms.
The property is expected to initiate operations in the last quarter of 2022.
