Tencent to create online platform for local schools

Chinese tech group Tencent, responsible for WeChat, is the company that will be in charge of developing the online platform that will be used by schools from the end of this month, the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ) told TDM Radio.

The application will be called WeCom and is aimed at teachers, staff, students and guardians, and will allow communication between the family and the school, and distance learning.

DSEJ first expressed the need for an online teaching platform at a time when schools were closed because of the pandemic.

Five companies were contacted by DSEJ to award the service, with one being US tech-giant Microsoft, with DSEJ indicating that it chose Tencent to ensure that the online platform can be used both in Macau and China, and in particular by cross-border students.
