Tigerair Taiwan cancels all Macau flights for April

Taiwanese low-cost carrier Tigerair Taiwan announced that it has extended its service cancellations for all its flights to and from Macau in April.

The decision impacts all flights connecting Macau to Taoyuan, Taichung and Kaohsiung scheduled between April 1 and 30, with the company having previously scratched all its flights until March.

Today the Taiwan Tourism Bureau’s announced it would extend its ban on group tours from the island to Hong Kong and Macau, as well as tours that require transit through those destinations, for another month until the end of April.

Taiwanese authorities announced at the beginning of this month that passengers who have been in mainland China, Hong Kong or Macau in the past 14 days are not allowed to enter unless they are Taiwan residents or holders of passports from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau.

The airline also noted that passengers who purchased tickets for these flights will be refunded directly to the original account as purchased, with the refund to take four weeks’ working days.

The number of passengers carried to and fro the Macau International Airport has fallen by 90 per cent year-on-year between February 1 and 16, with flight movements dropping 70 per cent.

At the beginning of the month, CAM had informed MNA that almost 2,000 flights were cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak until as far as March 28.
