The Macau transport and storage sector generated MOP24.53 billion (US$3 billion) in receipts in 2018, a 9.3 per cent increase from the year prior, data released today by the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) revealed

Just passenger transport services recorded an 8.5 per cent year-on-year rise to MOP9.82 billion, mainly due to the growth of the air transport industry, with the number of passenger traffic at the Macau International Airport (MIA) last year having gone up 15 per cent year-on-year to 8.26 million passengers.

Meanwhile with the opening of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge on October 24, receipts from sea transport last year inched down by 0.1 per cent year-on-year to MOP2.40 billion as the number of visitors and Macau residents travelling by ferry started falling down.

Expenses for the transport and storage sector ammounted to MOP20.57 billion, having gone up by 8.1 per cent year-on-year, with the sector finishing with a MOP3.96 billion gross surplus.

However, the Gross Fixed Capital Formation of the sector saw a considerable 136.8 per cent year-on-year rise to MOP1.11 billion due to new acquisition of ships, aircraft and shops by businesses in the sector.
