UPDATED – Typhoon Signal 8 hoisted due to Mulan

Tropical Cyclone Signal 8 has been issued at 7:00am as typhoon ‘Mulan’ gets nearer to Macau, the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) announced.

Tropical storm Mulan is currently located at about 350 km southwest of Macau and moves toward the Leizhou peninsula, with winds expected to strenghten.

‘As the winds over the bridges are expected to be strong and gusty, drivers are advised to pay attention to traffic safety. Motorcyclists should travel between Macao Peninsula and Taipa Island through motorcycle lane on Sai Van Bridge,’ the SMG warned.

A yellow storm surge warning is also still in force, with flooding set to occur in low-lying areas between 5:00am and 11:00am, with the highest flooding level between 0.5 to 1.0 meters.

School classes will be suspended all day with some public department services open to the public suspended.
