Typhoon Signal No. 9 hoisted

The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) has issued stand-by signal number 9 at 02:30am on Wednesday, as typhoon Higos edges closer to the region.

At midnight, the tropical storm was located about 70 km south of Macau and was moving toward the west of the Pearl River Estuary.

Winds with sustained speed of 63 to 117 km/h are expected and the gust may exceed 180 km/h. SMG predicts that signal number 9 will remain hoisted for a period of time.
