Unemployment rate at 2.9pct in Q2

The unemployment rate in Macau was at 2.9 per cent in the second quarter of the year, remaining virtually unchanged from the previous three months, authorities announced today (Friday).

The unemployment rate among residents (3.9 per cent) dropped 0.1 percentage points, indicated the Directorate of Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) in a statement.

“Among the unemployed looking for a new job, the majority previously worked in the economic activity of lotteries, other gambling and games promotion activity and in the construction sector”, detailed the DSEC.

“In turn, the median monthly employment income of employed residents was MOP20,000, which is the same as in the previous quarter,” he added in the same note.
