Vietnam reports 15,707 new COVID-19 cases

Vietnam reported 15,707 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, including 15,658 locally transmitted and 49 imported, according to its Ministry of Health.

The Vietnamese capital Hanoi remained the locality with highest number of 2,945 infections on Saturday, followed by central Da Nang city with 973 cases and northern Hai Phong city with 745 cases.

The infections brought the country’s total tally to 2,126,444 with 36,596 deaths. Nationwide, as many as 1,800,692 COVID-19 patients have so far recovered.

Some 175 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines, including 73.8 million second shots and 22.4 million third shots, have been administered, according to the ministry.

Vietnam has by far gone through four coronavirus waves of increasing scale, complication and infectivity. As of Saturday, the country has registered over 2.1 million locally transmitted COVID-19 cases since the start of the current wave in late April last year.

It has also confirmed 135 cases positive with the new Omicron variant, according to the ministry.
