Wang Weizhong was elected Governor of the neighbouring Guangdong Province by the provincial legislature on Saturday.
The 13th Guangdong Provincial People’s Congress elected the governor at its fifth session.
Mr Wang was serving as acting governor of Guangdong after his predecessor Ma Xingrui was appointed last month as secretary of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regional Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
As Guangdong Governor, Mr Ma served as co-director of the management committee of the newly established Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin alongside Macau Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng.
Wang Weizhong is an alternate member of the 19th CPC Central Committee and deputy CPC secretary of Guangdong Province. He previously served as CPC secretary of Shenzhen city between 2017 and 2021.
