The government has launched a public tender for companies interested in running the WiFi GO service that provides free wireless Internet connectivity at selected government premises, public facilities and tourist locations. ‘In order to expand the coverage of the service and to optimise the system to improve the quality of the service provided, the government is going to launch a public tender’, the Bureau of Telecommunications Regulation said on its website. The deadline for companies to apply for the public tender is August 13. Bidders will have to pay a deposit of 1 million patacas, according to the statement. The service, which has been running since the end of 2012 by operator Centro de Informações Tecnologia de Macau (CITM), expires this year. CITM received 21.6 million patacas during the current year for providing the service.
