The Chinese government has appointed Xia Baolong, the Vice-Chairman of the 13th Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), as the new director of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office of the State Council, Xinhua news agency reported.
The Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office of the State Council is responsible for promoting cooperation and coordination of political, economic and cultural ties between Mainland China and both SARs.
Xia will replace Zhang Xiaoming in the position, who will now be in charge of the State Council’s daily operations as a director-level Deputy Director.
Luo Huining and the Fu Ziying – the current Macau Liaison Office Director – will both hold functions as Deputy Directors of the State Council.
In 2003 Xia Baolong was appointed as Zheijiang’s Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, then as Secretary of the Political and Legal Committee, Acting Governor and finally as Governor.
In 2012, he took over as Secretary of the Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee and In 2018 he was elected as the CPPCC Vice-Chairman.
