Zhuhai authorities restart Hengqin projects

The Zhuhai government has restarted several development projects and operations in Hengqin, including projects involving local entrepreneurs and companies.

According to the city authorities, construction works for the WePark Culture & Art Plaza included in the first phase of the Guangdong-Macau Industrial Cooperation Park, which will include a complex for cultural-creative conference and exhibition, leisure tourism, youth entrepreneurial base, and art hotel.

All land-use enterprises with local investment were said to have resumed operations while about 70 per cent of local startups have gone back to work.

Several local companies are either based at the Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park or at the Hengqin Macau Youth Entrepreneurship Valley and Hengqin International Science and Technology Innovation Center.

The Macau Affairs Bureau of the Hengqin Administrative Committee was also said to have offered subsidies of office area rents and property management fees to help local enterprises based in the special economic area.

The neighbouring Chinese city has also informed that on April 1 the first tunnel included in the rail system that will connect the Hengqin New Area to Zhuhai (Jinwan) Airport was completed.

The almost 400 metres tunnel is part of Phase II of the Zhuhai Airport Urban Rail Transit, which connected the MRT Zhuhai Station in Gongbei to Hengqin Chimelong on November, 2019 and will in the future allow a 30 minutes trip from the Gongbei Border to the Zhuhai Airport.

The rail system is also planned to connect to the Taipa Light Rail Transit system.

In total, all 33 ongoing provincial and municipal projects in Hengqin were said to have re-started, involving some 40,000 workers.
