Health authorities announced today (Friday) that starting from tomorrow the daily quota for quarantine exemptions provided by Zhuhai authorities to Macau residents will be increased from 1,000 to 3,000.
Since June 16 Macau residents needing to cross the Zhuhai border for business reasons or other specific motives who do not have a Zhuhai residence permit to apply for exemption from the Guangdong’s current 14-day quarantine requirement.
However, residents and legislators have since then asked for an increase in available quotas and for the system to be extended to other Guangdong cities or to Hong Kong.
Speaking in today’s pandemic update press conference, Conde S. Januario Hospital Doctor, Alvis Lo Iek Lo indicated that the increase aims to better satisfy the needs of local residents and comes after repeated communication and meetings with Zhuhai and Guangdong Province authorities.
Yesterday, Macau reported the first positive Covid-19 cases for almost 80 days, a local resident Filipino national who was returning from the Philippines. In total, the city has reported some 46 confirmed cases.
