‘1212 Blue Street’ transactions grow 40 pct

The Director of Macao Economic Services (DSE), Tai Kin Ip, said total sales transactions have jumped by 40 per cent on average for this year’s ‘1212 Blue Street’ event compared to ordinary days, local Chinese-language newspaper Macao Daily reported.
The event, taking place between December 1 and December 31, offers discounts to buyers using Macau Pass or Alipay for transactions in shops in the central and southern parts of the city. Meanwhile, local SMEs participating in the promotional event will be able to enjoy discounts when setting up the e-commerce transaction payment device.
According to the DSE Director, some 230 SMEs have participated in the event this year, adding that the government is pursuing attracting more SMEs in Rua Das Estalagens near St. Paul’s Ruins to join the promotional event.
In addition, the official said the government is currently promoting and introducing the advantages of the new payment method to SMEs in the city in order to attract firms to participate in the annual shopping event, said Mr. Tai.
Meanwhile, for the second-time support for the city’s start-ups via the Young Entrepreneur Aid Scheme, Mr. Tai said the bill has reached the final stages of legislation.
According to the official, the government will first consider offering entrepreneurs supporting services and website resources necessary for start-ups to operate their business.
The director added that DSE will co-operate with more associations to provide more services to entrepreneurs.
