Fewer SMEs seek govt-backed, interest-free loans

More than MOP265 million (US$33 million) in interest-free government loans were offered to small and medium-sized enterprises last year, the Economic Services Bureau says. Some 722 companies took a loan through the bureau’s SME Aid Scheme last year, a decrease from the 840 companies loaned money in 2012. The bureau says it handled 815 applications last year, 86 less than in 2012. The amount loaned fell by 3 percent last year.
