HK$35 million for GuangDong Millions winner

HK$34.6 million (US$4.5 million) – that was how much Niklas Heinecker took home, after winning last week’s “GuangDong Ltd Asia Millions” main event. The 28-year old German poker pro beat a 71-player field. The “GuangDong Ltd Asia Millions” was organised by junket operator Guangdong Group (Macau) Ltd and PokerStars Macau, and took place at City of Dreams from June 4 to June 7. It was promoted as one of the biggest super high roller poker tournaments in the world, with each person buying in for HK$1 million, with the option for two rebuys. The final tally counted 54 rebuys, swelling the prize pool to HK$119.4 million. According to the organisers, the “GuangDong Ltd Asia Millions” main event boasted the second largest prize pool of all time outside of Las Vegas.
