Macau banks very international

The proportion of international business in the local banking sector increased marginally during the second quarter of 2010. At end-June 2010, the share of international assets in total banking assets rose to 84.8 percent (MOP389.2 billion or US$48.5 billion) from 84.1 percent at end-March 2010, while the share of international liabilities in total banking liabilities edged up to 78.1 percent from 78.0 percent (MOP358.8 billion or US$44.7 billion). Foreign currencies remained the dominant denomination in international banking transactions. At end-June 2010, the pataca share of total international assets and total international liabilities was 0.5 percent and 1.1 percent respectively.
