Macau (MNA) – Brazilian driver and CEO of self-driving car championship RoboRace, Lucas di Grassi, told Macau News Agency (MNA) he wants to bring a demonstration of the automated electrically powered vehicles to the Macau circuit in 2018.

The Brazilian is currently competition at the Macau FIA GT World Cup for Audi and the current champion of FIA Formula E Championship.

“Autonomous cars are the future of commercial driving so it makes sense we also have an autonomous motorsport event. Which doesn’t mean traditional auto racing will die. Just because there are cars it doesn’t mean there isn’t horse races,” he added.

The Brazilian pilot also told MNA he wanted to see a Formula E competition in Macau similar to the Hong Kong E-Prix, which serves as the opening event of the Formula E season.

“There’s absolutely no problem bringing Formula E here. It would be excellent,” he added.

Despite Having finished in 16th in this year’s first GT qualification, Grassi says he has already adapted to change from Ferrari to his current Audi R8.

“After five years it feels good to be back to one of the best tracks in the world. It’s a long track with many curves, high intensity, a street circuit and mountain sections. it’s one of the hardest track sin the world and that’s why it’s a driver’s favourite,” Grassi told MNA
