Macau | EXCLUSIVE: New project for Pac On Customs Services’ headquarters signed

Macau (MNA) – The design project of the new building that will house the headquarters of the Macao Customs, to be located in the Pac On area, was awarded this week to Architects Associates Ltd., Macau News Agency (MNA) has learned.

The Macau SAR government has decided to move the Customs’ main office from the Barra area to the Pac On new landfill on claims that it needs a bigger structure after the central government has granted the MSAR the management of its territorial waters.

The new building, closer to the water, will be adjacent to the existing building of the Pac On Immigration Services and the future building that will house the Police Intervention Tactical Unit (UTIP).

The contract awarding the project was signed on Monday for a total consideration of MOP16.5 million.

“Our main concern will be the building’s functionality, more than aesthetic concepts,” the head of the studio and Portuguese architect, José Catita, told MNA.

“The building will have some height limitations because of the proximity to the airport, with only six floors, but a lot of area,” explained the architect. The new headquarters will represent a “significant” expansion compared to the current facilities in Barra.

The design is expected to be completed by the end of next year.
