Macau | No request received to move greyhounds to Macau Jockey Club – Gaming regulator

Macau (MNA) – The Gaming Inspection and Co-ordination Bureau (DICJ) said this Wednesday that although the company responsible for the Canidrome had submitted a request to relocate its greyhounds to the Macau Jockey Club (MJC) the horseracing track company had yet to make a similar request.

Only when MJC makes the request can the DICJ decide if any unadopted greyhounds could be transferred to the horseracing track facilities before the July 21.expiryof the greyhound racing concession held by Macau (Yat Yuen) Canidrome Co. Ltd.

Nevertheless, the DICJ said today that even if the MJC makes the request, it would be unlikely that it will be approved since the horseracing track concession does not include premises specifically designed for the greyhounds – per its contract only racehorses are considered MJC’s concession assets.

This information was provided in a press conference held today by the Macau SAR Government called to clarify the current situation of the Canidrome concession, which has been generating strong controversy over the past few weeks.

The Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) reiterated once again that Yat Yuen, chaired by legislator Angela Leong On Kei, still has the responsibility to take care of any unadopted greyhounds, even if they are moved to another location.

Last week, the DICJ rejected an extension requested by the Canidrome to use its own facilities for another 120 days.
