Macau | Theodore Racing remains determined to compete in Super Formula – Macau Grand Prix

SJM Theodore Racing owner Teddy Yip Jr. told Macau News Agency (MNA) that he is determined to take his team to compete in the Japanese Super Formula championship.

“I wouldn’t call it a plan at this point but we definitely have an interest. I enjoy the series and the competition and would like the opportunity to go for it. I think it would be a great thing to do and I’d really enjoy it,” Mr.Yip Jr. told MNA.

The team owner and son of Theodore Racing’s founder, former local businessman Theodore ‘Teddy’ Yip, had first revealed his intentions to compete in the Super Formula event to MNA during last year’s Grand Prix.

Since Yip Jr. resurrected his father’s racing team in 2013, the team has conquered two Macau Formula 3 Grands Prix with Swedish driver Felix Rosenqvist.

This year, however, Rosenqvist drove for the Scuderia Corsa Ferrari team in the FIA GT World Cup, with Theodore Racing by Prema bringing drivers Maximilian Günther and Ferrari Academy Drivers Callum Ilott and Zhou Guan Yu, together with Mick Schumacher, the son of seven-time Formula 1 Champion Michael Schumacher.

In the final FIA F3 World Cup, Ilott was unlucky starting in first but losing several positions after mechanical problems led him to exit to the pits ending in 15th, with Mick Schumacher also having mechanical problems that forced him to finish in last.

German driver Günther ended up being the team’s best classified driver, finishing in 5th, with Chinese driver Zhou in 8th.
