Macau | Underground flood prevention water tank to be developed at canidrome land plot

Macau (MNA) – The Macau Chief executive (CE) Fernando Chui Sai On said this Thursday at the Legislative Assembly (AL) that the government was studying the possibility of building an underground water reservoir at the land plot of the canidrome for use in cases of flooding or storm surge.

The CE also stated that 20 to 30 per cent of the land was to be used for developing school installations and reiterated that no commercial or gaming projects would be developed in the space, with the sport equipments in the area to continue to be open to the public.

The comments were made as a response to a question by legislator Ma Chi Seng, who was inquiring on the plans for the future development of the race track.

Previously the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Alexis Tam had stated four schools were to be developed in the canidrome land plot, with one destined for special needs students.

The Macau government has granted a MOP1.4 million (US$179,338) contract to CAA, Planeamento e Engenharia, Consultores Limitada – a company owned by legislator Chui Sai Peng – to make a study on the possible urban development of the area, expected to be finished in the middle of this year.

Legislator Chui told Macau News Agency (MNA) the company is a “client of the government” and would take into consideration these ideas into the urban development study.

Macau (Yat Yuen) Canidrome Co. Ltd. had to abandon its greyhounds racing activities in the canidrodme after its concession finished on July 20 of this year.
