Still awaiting Beijing’s response to capacity report

Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Alexis Tam Chon Weng told reporters on Tuesday that the SAR Government is waiting for the response from the central government on the city’s tourism capacity report that was handed in this March for improving the current Individual Visit Scheme for Mainland tourists. The Secretary stressed that the improvement of the scheme will need consensus between the two governments. The authorities will also need to seek a balance between local residents’ quality of life and the city’s tourism capacity. In his recent Policy Address Mr. Tam proposed capping the number of Mainland visitors to Macau at 21 million.
