Drag reduction systems and new safety updates to be part of this year’s Macau GP F3 race

Macau (MNA) – Drag reduction systems could be used for the first time in this year’s Macau Grand Prix F3 race, according to a report by Autosport.

DRS is a form of driver-adjustable bodywork aimed at reducing aerodynamic drag in order to increase top speed and promote overtaking in motor racing.

A new FIA Formula 3 car model will also be used this year, being a mix of the models used for the GP3 Series and F1, with the FIA Formula 3 Championship organisation announcing that the higher power-to-weight ratio will lead to several updates to be made ahead of this year’s edition barriers at Lisboa corner, following the serious accident last year involving German driver Sophia Flörsch.

The FIA single-seater commission president having told Autosport the new safety features of the car coupled with track safety updates, would make this year’s Macau F3 race the safest possible.

The Macau race track if also awaiting homologated, with its previous homologation having expired at the end of last year.

The Macau Grand Prix will take place between November 14 and 17 of this year.
