Gaming watchdog employee allegedly behind sex-selling website

Macau’s gaming watchdog has initiated disciplinary procedures against one of its staff who had allegedly been running a prostitution forum, from which he profited MOP12 million (US$1.48 million) over 10 years.

The 58-year-old civil servant was arrested yesterday, according to the Judiciary Police.

The police investigators said that they had been deepening an investigation into a pornographic website offering sex services since last year, when they discovered that as many as 54 mainland Chinese women were being manipulated to sell sex.

The prostitutes were caught alongside 19 workers last year.

However, it was not until yesterday that the police managed to track down the two masterminds behind the ring, with one of them a Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau worker, and the other a 38-year-old restaurant manager.

The authorities believe that the organisation had allegedly been up and running since 2009.

The gaming regulator said that an internal probe is now underway, with the civil servant already suspended pending further disciplinary action.
