Late gambling tycoon Stanley Ho’s elder sister passes away aged 106

Deceased casino godfather Stanley Ho’s elder sister has reportedly passed away earlier this week at the age of 106.

According to Chinese-language Macao News Daily, Nanette Ho Yuen Hung, better known as ‘the eighth girl’, passed away on 28 February, with a funeral service to be held at the Kiang Wu Hospital at 11:00 tomorrow (4 March 2023).

The news was also confirmed by Sociedade de Turismo e Diversões de Macau (STDM) and SJM Resorts SA, which jointly issued an obituary yesterday.

Ho had 13 brothers and sisters, with Stanley Ho – dubbed the ‘king of gaming’ who died aged 98 in May 2020 – being the ninth of them.

A long-time educator, Ho committed herself to teaching after studying at the University of Hong Kong and the University of Edinburgh.

She was married to her classmate in 1942, and had a daughter the next year. However, it was reported that her husband had gone missing during a war in Shanghai in 1945.

Her daughter – a well-known portrait painter and sculptor – died of a disease in 1999.

In order to commemorate her deeply loved daughter, Ho set up an exhibition dedicated to her artworks at the Macau Tower in 2005.
