Ma Qing Hua defends pole position for final Guia Race

Chinese driver Ma Qing Hua successfully defended his starting position in the Galaxy Entertainment Macau Guia Race qualification race and will start from the pole position on the final day of the 50th anniversary of the Macau Guia Race. Hong Kong’s Sze Ho Lo beats Macau’s Filipe Souza for a podium spot.

As Ma Qing Hua won the first TCR Asia scoring race at Macau ahead of his Teamwork Motorsport team-mate and title rival Zhang Zhi Qiang, the gap for the 2021 TCR Asia drivers’ title is down to 14 points, with 25 points available tomorrow.

After taking second place from Hong Kong driver Andy Yan Cheuk Wai, Zhang repeatedly attempted to overtake Ma for two laps, to no avail.

Zhang made history last year as the first Mainland Chinese driver to win the Macau Guia Race after a post-race penalty for on-the-road winner Rob Huff that took Ma out of the race.

Z-Challenger Racing driver Lo Sze Ho, who is driving a Hyundai i30 N TCR car for the first time, completed today’s podium some 12 seconds behind Ma.

Despite starting in second, Macau driver Filipe Sousa lost ground after the race start, dropping to 6th at one point and managing to recover to finish in 4th.
