Macau | Secretary for Social Affairs “shocked” with illegal rental of University of Macau residence on Airbnb

“When I heard yesterday [Sunday] of this case I was surprised, I was shocked. How is it possible for a university residence to be an illegal pension? Not acceptable, I was very shocked. I have already spoken with the university’s rector and will very soon be presenting a research report, “said Alexis Tam.

He said that this is an exceptional episode: “We can not say that it is not possible to say that university residences in Macau are used as illegal pensions. ”

On Sunday, a publication by the University of Macau Student Association, the Orange Post, reported that the institution had ordered the expulsion of a master’s student for illegally renting the university residence room on the online private accommodation platform Airbnb.

In two publications on the social network Facebook, written in Chinese, the Orange Post indicated that the asking price was around a little more than MOP300 (US$31).

The report also indicated that the student denied committing any illegality and that the resources department student management will be widely analyzed and student awareness will be strengthened.
