Mass market sustains Emperor International revenue growth

Gaming and hotel company Emperor International Holdings has recorded a 2.4 per cent year-on-year rise in its gaming revenues, recording some HK$559.5 million (US$71.4 million) in the six month period ending September 30 of this year, the group’s most recent unaudited results indicate.

The company saw its gaming revenues from VIP rooms fall by 26.3 per cent year-on-year in that period to about HK$160.2 million, a result offset by a 22.2 per cent rise in results from slot machines as well as gaming tables in the gaming concourse to HK$378.2 million.

Toral revenue in the six-month period went up 1.9 per cent to reach HK$677.9 million when compared to the same period last year, as profit attributable to owners of the
the company rose considerably by 37.4 per cent to HK$177.2 million.

The group attributed the increase in profit to the Group’s increased shareholding from 60 per cent to 80 per cent in a non-wholly owned subsidiary.

Emperor currently operates two hotels, the Grand Emperor Hotel and Inn Hotel Macau in the Macau Peninsula.

The grand emperor Hotel holds 311 guest rooms and has six gaming floors operated under the gaming licence held by SJM and covering over 130,000 square feet, while Inn Hotel has 17-stories and 287 guest rooms.

Emperor stated it remains optimistic about the long term outlook for Macau’s gaming market as with the development of tourism in Hengqin and Macau designated as a global gaming hub by the Chinese government, the city can capitalise on the market potential and further enhance its leading tourism position.
