Measles cases reach 28

Macau (MNA) – The Health Bureau (SS) confirmed another measles case, with the total number of cases in Macau amounting to 28 this year.

The new patient is a 32-year-old man from Macau and had been vaccinated against the infectious disease.

He had visited Bangkok and Pattaya in Thailand from March 14 to 19, the SS said in the press release on Wednesday, thus considering the case as an imported one.

The patient manifested the first symptoms on April 1, having visited the Emergency Service of the Public Hospital Conde de São Januário (CHCSJ) on April 2. The SS confirmed yesterday he had contracted measles.

The health authority said additionally that it is also monitoring the health situation of 228 people who have had close contact with the 27th measles patient, who is a paediatrics nurse at the CHCSJ found to have worked after manifesting the first symptoms.

The SS claimed nobody in contact with the nurse has yet presented symptoms, including family members, colleagues, and patients.

Meanwhile, the SS will hold a sampling blood collection of measles for Filipino domestic workers on Saturday, for which 100 vacancies of antibody testing for measles had been fully booked.

The preliminary results are expected to be released next week.

From March 20 to April 3, the Bureau said it had vaccinated 3,883 people against measles, of which 60 per cent are Macau residents.
