Taipa pedestrian overpass project completed

Authorities have concluded the construction of a MOP339.9 million (US$42.5 million) pedestrian overpass connecting Avenida de Guimaraes in Taipa to the Macau Stadium roundabout.

‘This project was completed earlier this month and the provisional inspection began recently, opening to the public after the completion of the appropriate administrative procedures,’ the Land, Public Works and Transport Bureau (DSSOPT) announced.

Awarded to Top Builders Internacional, Limitada, the project has been in construction since 2018 with an estimated completion period of 720 days.

It aimed to ‘facilitate the mobility of residents in the area with the proper separation between road and pedestrian traffic’ and ‘without architectural barriers for residents of the area’.

The new crossing along Avenida de Guimarães has a total length of 700 meters and crosses Rua de Nam Keng, Rua de Coimbra, Rua de Seng Tou, Rua de Bragança and Rotunda do Estádio, with a connection to the Macau Stadium Light Tapid Transit station.

The four pedestrian crossing accesses are equipped with stairs and elevators/escalators.

The project exceeded its budget by 0.2 per cent.
