Ten public car parks increase daytime hourly rates

As part of the third phase of the adjustment of public car park fees, ten public car parks will stop offering monthly passes from May 1 according to a statement issued by the Transport Bureau (DSAT) yesterday. The ten car parks involved are situated in the Northern District and Taipa.
The new hourly parking rate for light vehicles will be MOP6 from 8:00 am until 8:00 pm and MOP3 from 8:00 pm until 8:00 am the next day. Previously, the car parks charged MOP3 per hour for the whole day.
The new hourly rate for motorcycles is MOP2 during the daytime and MOP1 during the nighttime, with a MOP1 hourly rate for the whole day. DSAT explains that the third phase adjustment for the parking fee has adopted the same rate change as the previous two times. It added that despite the monthly car park pass being in place, no more monthly passes have been issued.
The ten car parks are at Rua da Tranquilidade, Mong In Building, Mong Sin Building, Lido, Transport Bureau (DSAT) Building, Fai Fu Building, Cheng Chong Building, Cheng Choi Building, Cheng Chun Building and Taipa Central Park.

Higher turnover
DSAT explains that the reason for the adjustment is that the public car parks fee has remained the same for years despite the market rapidly developing. Parking places have become a scarce commodity in Macau. Thus, there is a demand for increasing the turnover rate during peak hours in public car parks.
According to the government, the following factors have been taken into consideration: parking fees in different areas, local private car parking fees, inflation and public opinion regarding the acceptance of the new proposed parking fees.
The government is launching four phases for the new parking fee adjustment, introducing the new pricing model segment from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm in order to narrow the gap in hourly fees between public car parks and private car parks. DSAT says the aim of this change is to ensure the efficiency of managing the public car parks by utilising resources more effectively.
