Travel agencies in court dispute with Bejing Imperial Hotel former owner over MOP100 mln in debts

Macau (MNA) – Travel agencies held a press conference asking the Land, Public Works and Transport Bureau (DSSOPT) to delay the Beijing Imperial Pacific redevelopment plan consultation until its previous owners settle debts owed to them, TDM TV reported.

Several travel agency associations who previously booked rooms at the property held a press conference on Thursday stating that the property previous owners owed them almost MOP100 million (US$12.4 million), with a lawsuit having been initiated in 2017 to freeze the assets.

The group – described as the Victims Group of Beijing Imperial Pacific – urged for the owner of the property to hold a meeting with them so the debts can be resolved.

The first hearing of the lawsuit was said to take place in September and regretted the “speedy” public consultation initiated by authorities on the property’s new development plan.

The owner of the Beijing Imperial Palace Hotel has Taipa applied for conditional urban planning to the DSSOPT in order to redevelop the hotel facilities with the hotel previously known as the New Century Hotel having been sealed up by tourism authorities since 2016.

The hotel has faced a long-term ownership dispute between a company owned Amax International Holdings chairman Ng Man Sun and a company owned by the Suncity Group Holdings Limited CEO Alvin Chau Cheok Wa.
