USJ startup incubator to focus initially on Tourism Tech, Fintech, and Social Tech projects

The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) has initiated the incorporation process for its future startup incubator under the university’s Faculty of Business and Law.

Macau Spin Incubator Center Limited – which going through the incorporation process and aims to start running in the coming academic year in September of this year – will have as its initial focus startups in Tourism Tech, Fintech, and Social Tech for Social Enterprises.

It will also serve as a platform for startups from Portuguese-speaking countries (PSCs) to incubate in Macau and connect to incubators in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) and vice-versa.

The agreement of incorporation was signed at the USJ’s Notary’ office on April 29, with the incubator established in partnership with lawyer Bruno Nunes, founder of BN Lawyers, and Marco Rizzolio, Founder of Follow Me Macau.

“USJ has a unique and privileged role as a platform between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries. This incubator provides a concrete way in which we can provide academic and professional support and mentoring to business who want to seize the opportunities this platform offers,” USJ Rector, Professor Stephen Morgan, stated in the announcement.

Initially, the incubator will only operate online, providing mentoring, networking, and startup support to its members from the GBA or the PSCs, with services also provided to local startups
