Macau | Some 14 budget hotels awaiting licence approval – Tourism Office head

Macau (MNA) – There are some 14 budget hotels in the city awaiting the approval of their operation licence as of today, the Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, told Macau News Agency (MNA).

The MGTO head said most of these budget hotels are located in the old districts of the city.

She also revealed that there are currently around 1,600 budget hotel rooms in operation in Macau.

“We know that different visitors have different demands,” said Ms. Senna Fernandes. “The government cannot invest in operating budget hotels but if there are interested parties to invest, we would provide technical support in terms of applying for licences to expedite the procedure for obtaining them.”

Regarding the revision of the bill for simplifying licence approval measures, the director said that she hoped the bill would undergo legislative procedures within this year.

The Chief Executive (CE), Fernando Chui Sai On, has announced the government’s continuous attempts to boost and promote the development of budget hotels in his 2018 Policy Address.
