Macau | Average salary of delivery drivers at MOP13,500 – DSAL

Macau (MNA) – The average salary for a light vehicle delivery driver is currently set at MOP13,500, the deputy director of the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL), Chan Un Tong, said on Friday.

DSAL is holding a matching fair for enterprises and job seekers on delivery driving on Friday and Saturday. The fair has attracted 114 enterprises and is providing 266 job vacancies. The salary of job vacancies offered at the fair range from MOP7,500 to MOP20,000.

Asked about a delivery driver job offer advertising a MOP40,000 salary, the DSAL deputy head said MOP13,500 is the current average salary within the profession, based on the referrals that the bureau made in the past ten months.

During an earlier policy address session at the Legislative Assembly (AL), Zheng Anting, a legislator, had argued that no resident had approached a local company which he allegedly claims is offering delivery driver jobs with a stipend of MOP40,000.

Mr. Chan stressed that DSAL is not the only agent to hold matching fairs or similar sessions in the city.

Of the total number of job vacancies available at the fair, 251 require the delivery of goods while 15 require only driving work proper.

Questioned about the current demand and supply in the city, Mr. Chan said there is a structural paradox on the demand and supply of delivery drivers and passenger drivers.

“There are more people who are willing to work as passenger drivers but most companies are looking for delivery drivers,” said Mr. Chan.

Regarding passenger drivers of heavy vehicles, Mr. Chan said the demand has been alleviated since the remuneration for the profession has been adjusted.

Up until October, DSAL opened 277 vacancies related to different types of drivers.

A job seeker surnamed Chen said he had received a message via a WeChat social group announcing that the fair organised by DSAL was to provide job openings with a MOP40,000-salary range. DSAL has denied sending out such messages.

Mr. Chen expressed disappointment over the low offers at the fair. There were also job seekers who had previously worked as delivery drivers concerned about vehicles being fined for illegal parking, given that many places in the city do not have parking spaces for vehicles to park and deliver goods.
