Macau | CEM multi-billion investments for the year and beyond

Macau (MNA) – The Companhia de Electricidade de Macau (CEM) has announced on Tuesday that the international public tender opened in December 2017 for the MOP3.2 billion investment in the gas turbine generator units was closed yesterday.

The units, whose construction should be completed in 2021, “should represent 50 per cent of the energy to be consumed in the SAR,” said Bernie Leong, the Chairman of CEM Executive Committee, at a luncheon held with media representatives today.

The results of the tender will be disclosed in September, with construction slated to start in October 2019.

Another project in the pipeline, at some MOP770 million investment, is the third interconnection between the Macau SAR with China, to be developed in Taipa.

The interconnection, the length of which will total seven kilometres and be completed in 2019, will run from Zhuhai Yantang primary substation, passing through Hengqin Shizimen Waterway, to the intersection near the Macau Roosevelt hotel, ending in the Pac On primary substation.

Overall, Mr. Leong said that the the company has approved a total investment of MOP1.53 billion for the financial year of 2018.

Of the total, 65 per cent of the investment will be channelled into transmission and distribution of networks, with 22 per cent deployed for energy generation. The remaining 13 per cent will be distributed for customer services and others.
