Macau (MNA) – Macau Customs Service has prosecuted a 40-year-old woman who was transporting 15,380 undeclared cigarettes over the border by hiding the cigarettes in old cartons, bags and backpacks.
The woman had been travelling to Macau on January 7 at 8:00 pm.
The cigarettes can be taxed for up to MOP24,000 (US$2,971.51).
The woman had admitted to re-selling cigarettes from Zhuhai and thus was prosecuted under Law No. 7/2003 on External Trade.
On checking the woman’s records for 2018 and 2019, this was not the first time she had flouted the law.
