Macau | Submission of suggestion report on Sulu Sou case before Nov 20 – AL committee

Macau (MNA) –  A ‘suggestion report’ to provide legal explanations for all legislators over the matter of legislator Sulu Sou Ka Hou’s case will be due November 20, announced legislator and chairman of the committee of regulations and mandate, Kou Hoi In, after a meeting on Thursday.

Mr. Kou emphasised that the committee would not offer any biased suggestions to legislators, while explaining that the report would only provide possible situations when particular regulations are implemented.

About the decision as to whether or not to suspend Mr. Sou’s position as a legislator prior to his trial in court, legislator Kou noted it should be made by all the incumbent legislators, adding they will cast anonymous votes.

The chairman of the Legislative Assembly (AL) has previously stated that he had sent a letter to the Court requesting to postpone Mr. Sou’s trial, due to the charged schedule at AL in the coming weeks.

If the majority of lawmakers votes for suspending Mr. Sou’s position as a legislator, Mr. Kou argued that Mr. Sou could still attend plenary sessions and standing committee meetings, but indicated that in such cases he would have no rights to express his opinions or make interpellations.

Also attending the meeting on Thursday, the young legislator spoke to the press after the meeting, stating, together with legislators Au Kam San and José Maria Pereira Coutinho, that the incident in question happened when he was not a legislator.

He further argued that his act did not constitute any serious crime, but rather on the contrary, it was an act concerned with the public good.

Mr. Sou stated that he will continue to prioritise his job as a legislator, adding that the case is not his top concern.
