Macau | Updated: Typhoon Signal No. 10 might be raised around 12:00 pm on Sunday

Macau (MNA) – The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) predicts that Typhoon Mangkhut will affect Macau most adversely at 12:00 pm tomorrow, with bureau head Raymond Tam adding that the possibility of raising the Typhoon Signal to Signal no. 10 is still possible.

Currently, SMG has officially raised the Typhoon Signal no. 3 at 6:00 pm as super-typhoon Mangkhut closes in around 670 kilometres south-east of Macau, moving west towards the western coast of Guangdong.

The present signal may be replaced by Signal No. 8 between 2:00 am and 5:00 am on Sunday.

A red storm surge warning (1.5 metres to 2.5 metres above road level) will be announced at 9:00 pm and residents living in low-lying areas will be asked to evacuate, it was announced during a press conference on Saturday.

Residents from low-lying areas (pictured above) are encouraged to take shelter in some 17 typhoon shelters around Macau.

No casinos have been given a shutdown order by the Chief Executive (CE) at the time of writing.
