Macau | University of Macau launches first free online course

Macau (MNA) – The University of Macau has announced the launching of its first massive open online course (MOOC), titled ‘Creativity’.

The online course will be launched on September 26 and run until November 4, about three hours per week, on a free basis.

The University claims the course is aimed at assisting learners develop creative thinking skills through a combination of short lecture videos, multiple choice questions, online and offline communication, as well as interactive learning activities.

By launching the course, which is open to anyone who has access to the Internet, UM’s is harnessing the development of artificial intelligence and robots, which the institution argues, is gradually taking up knowledge- and skill-based jobs.

‘There is therefore a pressing need for universities to produce graduates with creativity, critical thinking skills, leadership skills, collaborative skills, and other practical skills needed to meet the challenges of the new century,’ the press release reads.

Instructors of UM’s first MOOC are Professor Katrine Wong from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Professor Michael Li from the Faculty of Education, and Prof Davood Gozli from the Faculty of Social Sciences.
