Campaign visits allowed me to better understand the residents’ needs – Ho Iat Seng

The sole Chief Executive (CE) candidate, Ho Iat Seng, today said that he had acquired a lot of knowledge about the current policies implementation and insufficiencies in the Macau society during his campaign activities and visits to residential areas.

The CE candidate finished his tour of scheduled campaign visits with a visit to the Women’s General Association services complex at Rua de Barca today.

Mr. Ho said he had seldom visited residential areas and social facilities in the past and that he mainly heard the opinions and needs of residents through attending symposiums with different sectors in the community.

“I cannot change my political platform at this stage since the election will be held in the next few days. But if I am elected, I would consider these opinions in my policy address in the future,” he said.

The CE election will be held on August 25, with the election campaign period to finish at 12:00am on August 24, with the entire day to be a ‘cooling-off period’ for the election.

After the beginning of the campaign on August 10, the CE candidate visited several residential areas over the last two weeks, such as Areia Preta area, Patane Municipal Market and social facilities belonging to organisations such as Caritas and the Fu Hong Society.

“I am so happy to see many kids today, […] I am touched by my meetings with elderly and disabled residents, our society should show them more care,” Mr. Ho stated.

Concerning the government proposal to raise maternity leave for female workers to 70 days, but still remaining under popular calls for 90-day maternity leave, the CE candidate said he should not comment on this issue now since he is still a candidate and should “respect the current government”.
