City resumes pandemic prevention normalisation period

Macau has returned to the normalisation period of pandemic prevention on Sunday after a “comprehensive analysis”, as all 660,000-plus samples collected in the latest two-day round of citywide nucleic acid testing drive that ended on Saturday returned negative, the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre announced.

“With the joint efforts of various departments of the MSAR government, all sectors of society, and the whole community, and by integrating the joint prevention and control mechanism between Zhuhai and Macau, the current round of the epidemic has been effectively controlled,” the Centre said in a statement.

The latest COVID-19 outbreak surfaced on October 26, when an imported case first detected. Among the 10 cases of infection reported, two were individuals who frequently travel between Zhuhai and Macau and were classified as imported cases. The remaining 8 cases were found in isolation control among the contacts, or in the residence and activity places of the 2 cases, health authorities said.

Over the past week,  a 6-day citywide antigen test drive was carried out alongside two rounds of citywide nucleic acid testing programmes, with no infection cases  found in the community. With the return to the normalisation period, the daily 5pm press conference held by the Centre will no longer be arranged for the time being. However, health authorities pledge to pay close attention to the epidemic situation inside and outside the city.
