COVID-19: Hong Kong reports 28 new cases, another 33 to be confirmed

Health authorities in Hong Kong have confirmed 28 new cases of Covid-19 i on Saturday, while another 33 cases are pending confirmation. 

Hong Kong’s Centre for Health Protection announced that 16 of the 28 confirmed cases are locally-transmitted.

Among the 33 preliminary positive cases is a Hong Kong immigration officer stationed at a Shenzhen border checkpoint, as well as at least two taxi drivers.

The latest infections take the overall Covid-19 tally in the Hong Kong SAR to 1,431, including six deadly cases.

“This third wave of infections is by far the most severe since the epidemic started, even worse than back in March,” said Dr Chuang Shuk-kwan, head of the Centre for Health Protection’s (CHP) communicable disease branch.
