Government creates MOP10 billion fund to fight the epidemic

The SAR Government, through the Macau Foundation (FM), will create a fund of 10 billion patacas, specifically to support the fight against the epidemic, “to be allocated to Macau residents, companies and commercial establishments which, due to the impact of the epidemic situation, face difficulties in surviving or operating their businesses”, says a statement from the Government Information Bureau (GCS).

This coming week, the Government will announce the new round of support measures to be launched following the creation of this specific fund to help fight the epidemic, in order to fulfil the objective of “meeting the urgent needs of the population, stabilizing Macau’s economy and guaranteeing the social well-being and employment of residents”, says the statement.

This new fund is a direct consequence of the further spread of the epidemic and in order to prevent the increase of cases imported from abroad. But also because of the recent measures to control entry and exits adopted by Hong Kong and Guangdong Province “which will further affect Macau’s economy”, says GCS.

Previously, the Government adopted a series of other measures, namely reduction and exemption from taxes, support for loans and incentives for consumption, with a total value of about 40 billion patacas.
