Ho Iat Seng discusses with Zhuhai authorities pandemic control, border crossing

Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng held a videoconference with the secretary of the Zhuhai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CCP), Lu Yuyin, and other officials from the neighbouring city on Tuesday and discussed epidemic prevention measures, supply of goods and border crossing.

Both sides exchanged views on the policies and measures of each region for the next phase. In addition, they discussed the need for rapid resumption of normality at the border crossing, when the epidemic situation in the two regions stabilized, as well as the entry and exit of people with urgent needs during the epidemic and the search for a quarantine hotel, a statement by the Government Information Bureau said.

Mr Ho thanked the Guangdong and Zhuhai authorities for their strong support in the fight against the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak that has hit the SAR since June 18.

Ho Iat Seng indicated that Macau responded to this outbreak with the orderly implementation of different measures, depending on the epidemic evolution, at different stages, thus achieving a preliminary result in the fight against this epidemic outbreak. The Chief Executive reiterated that Macau persists in the “dynamic goal of zero infections”, making every effort to contain cases of contagion in the community as soon as possible, in order to safeguard the lives and health of residents.

Mr Ho added that he will seek to stabilize the epidemic situation as soon as possible to promote, in an orderly and scientific manner, the resumption of normality in the border crossing between the residents of the two regions.

The secretary of the CPC Zhuhai Municipal Committee, Lu Yuyin, noted that the Macau SAR proactively supported the epidemic prevention work in Zhuhai, quickly sharing the information and timely adjustment of policies related to border crossings and constantly improving prevention and joint control of the two sides.

He said he hoped that the two parties could further strengthen communication and improve the joint work of preventing and combating the epidemic according to the evolution of the situation and scientific evaluation and analysis.

Mr. Lu also addressed the path towards optimizing the border crossing with the premise of ensuring the prevention and combat of epidemic and security, in order to guarantee the movement of people and goods between the two cities in the best way, while minimizing the impact on socio-economic development, production and the life of the population.
