Macau | Brokerage lifts expectations of December gaming revenue

Macau (MNA) – Assuming that the average daily rate (ADR) of the city’s gross gaming revenue stays at MOP750 million (US$93.26 million) to MOP770 million for the remaining days of December, the gross gaming revenue for the month would fall in the range of MOP24.0 billion and MOP24.4 billion, meaning an estimated increase of 21 per cent to 23 per cent, sats brokerage Sanford C. Bernstein Co. LLC.

In a note released on Monday, analyst Vitaly Umansky, together with Zhen Gong and Cathy Huang, stated that the gross gaming revenue month-to-date, from December 1 to 10, had reached MOP8.25 billion, with an ADR of MOP825 million.

The ADR for the first ten days of December indicates a 7 per cent increase compared to the rate registered in the previous month, but it posted a growth of 20 per cent year-on-year, reads the note.

With ‘strong volume and the two weekends during the first ten days of the month’ boosting gaming revenue, the analysts estimated ‘mid-high single digit’ month-on-month for both the city’s Mass and VIP segments.

However, analysts believe that scepticism surrounds the weight of the overall gross gaming revenue number as ‘weekly channel checks have proven to be less than accurate and volatile’, given that the absence of the overall market share data and details of the breakdown between VIP and Mass.
