Macau | City ranked 4th in 12.12 Alipay global shopping festival

Macau (MNA) – The Macau SAR ranked 4th around the world in the 12.12 Alipay shopping festival, says Venetia Lee, General Manager and head of Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau Alipay.

Speaking on Wednesday prior to the signing ceremony with Fisherman’s Wharf at Macau Legend Palace, Ms. Lee said that more than 2,000 local stores accommodate the Alipay payment method.

According to Ms. Lee, this year’s 12.12 shopping festival focused on the Greater Bay Area and attracted buyers from Guangdong and Shenzhen.

“We are very satisfied with the outcome given that Macau is a very small city,” said Ms. Lee.

Regarding extending the market to local small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), Ms. Lee said they have been co-operating with Macau Pass.

“Alipay is more affordable when compared to traditional payment methods like card payment,” claimed Ms. Lee.

In addition, she said Alipay provides a platform for SMEs to promote, observing: “We have category offers, for instance; we offer discounts for stores relating to souvenirs if users search F&B for souvenirs […] and they are mainly SMEs.”

Meanwhile, she said more stores related to F&B offer an Alipay payment option, with 20 to 30 per cent of all stores collaborating with Alipay.

“Unlike in the past, the majority of stores offering Alipay are retail,” said Lee.

Fisherman’s Wharf, together with Macau Pass and Alipay, signed a co-operative agreement on Wednesday to provide Macau Pass and Alipay payment in properties under Fisherman’s Wharf; namely, Fisherman’s Wharf, Legend Palace and Habourview Hotel.
