Macau | Contacts between people from three regions to solve restrictions – HZMB authority

Macau (MNA) – Contacts between individuals from the three regions (Macau, Hong Kong and mainland China) should be the lead in resolving restrictions between the three regions, Wei Dongqing, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge (HZMB) Authority has proposed.

Speaking at the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Development Forum 2017 on Tuesday at the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), Mr. Wei said policies to tackle the restrictions between regions should start by experiences made by the communities from the three regions instead of addressing the matter by obtaining professional suggestions from legal experts in the first place.

He pointed out that the biggest restriction between regions are the Customs.

“We shouldn’t create any restrictions […] on the basic necessities of life,” said Mr. Wei. “The HZMB is to solve the necessities on accommodation and transportation so let’s not create any restrictions on the bridge itself.”

Mr. Wei further explained that the HKMB shortens the distance between Macau and Shenzhen. He pointed out that the choice of Macau as one of the destinations for the super bridge rather than other Chinese cities such as Zhongshan is to “specifically ensure the stable development of Macau”.
