Macau | Contract inked with 2nd company to oversee management of yacht scheme

Macau (MNA) – Local cruiser operator Wui Hong Yacht Service Company, Limited, should start operations and management of the berth area in Coloane between today and December 31.

The contract between the Macau SAR Government and the company has been officially celebrated last month, on September 26, according to a dispatch in the Official Gazette on Thursday.

The cost of the service will amount to MOP328,888 (US$ 40,719) per month, with the contract previously defining that the company should provide and maintain at least 50 berths in the facilities.

The 36-month concession can be renewed one time for the same duration or less according to the agreement reached by the parts.

Wui Hong was the only company admitted and successfully accepted in the public tender opened in February 2018.

It replaces Yuet Tung Shipping Company Limited, which was the first company recruited to operate the Coloane berth within the scope of the Free Individual Yacht Travel Scheme, launched in November 2016, connecting the city to Zhongshan in Mainland China.

The scheme has been considered a flop since the beginning as it failed to raise interest on the part of leisure boat owners from Macau and China.

According to data provided by the Marine and Water Bureau (DSAMA), only seven boats have so far applied for the scheme, all registered in Mainland China and all in the last quarter of 2016.

In September, Yuet Tung Shipping Company Limited has been recently authorised by the DSAMA to provide sightseeing cruise services in the city.

Yuet Tung also operates ferry routes to Shenzhen from Taipa Ferry Terminal, having previously supplied boats to the MSAR Government.
